Basic Facts Goal Setting

In class, term 3 the first week back my class has been setting goals for their work this year. The goals we are setting are based on our basic facts wall. We have also been thinking about if we set the goals how are we going to complete them.

At the moment I'm on brick 22

My holiday adventure

In class, we have been learning about figurative language such as personification. We also have learnt about Some; Others sentences structure and responding to feedback to improve our work.

I am confident at Some; Other sentences but with personification still getting there what mean is trying to fit/use it in my work.

Competition is on

I had just finished an action packed day with the Breakaway Holiday program. Now it was time to return to Kaikohe. The wind danced through my hair as I was running towards my bus line. We all hopped on the bus and scattered everywhere on the seats. On my bus, I had a singing comp. Whaea Michelle announced, “That  the prize was a 50$ warehouse voucher”, the competition was on, but some people like singing; other people rather die than sing.  I'm one of those other people. Everyone was keen as to win whaea Michelle spoke, “who wants to go first?” no one raised their hands until 6 seconds later this boy Paarani raised his hand to sing first the song he sang Te ohomaira everyone got out their phones and started recording he sang... his voice was like an angel he stopped everyone started clapping loud. I really wanted to put my hand up to sing for the 50$ voucher but I was way too shy.

Whaea Michelle said, “Who's next?” Then another boy raised his hand. It was Te ihi everyone recorded him and he sang the same song - his voice was as smooth as jazz. After that, a girl put her hand up (for the first time in forever) Hera sang the same song. It was like the song was the most popular song in the world because everyone kept on singing, her voice was nice and smooth too. Up next was the boys all the way at the back of the bus they all got together and sang tu tera mai nga iwi lytrell started it off and one by one the rest of the boys started to join in.

Everyone was cracking up because they were all off note and beat and they all started to die off. It was funny, then it was Kash and Kayden's turn to sing a different song. The song they sang was Koia ano te aroha. Their singing was okay in my opinion. Whaea Michelle loved it because they sang about GOD. I was egging on taitokerau to sing and she sang Te aho mai ra. Her voice was like two angels combined. It was beautiful. Then at the end it was the boys again who had a whole album and all the way back to school they were just singing their hearts out.

That was my favorite part of the day and I will never forget that day. I meet heaps of new people.I can’t wait for the next holiday program. Mostly the bus was the best part of the day:)

About plants

We have been learning how to write a good explanation. I learned how to structure my introduction properly and use subheadings for my paragraphs. I struggled the most on punctuation and De;de sentences I still am but getting there. I also learned about synthesizing it was the hardest thing ever.

The life of Plants

Introduction

Do you know how plants excrete? Well plants excrete by getting rid of, they get rid of oxygen but when they get rid of something the leaves die off. Plants have pores on their leaves but the pores aren’t visible so if you pick up a plant and try to look for the pores you can’t see them because they are visible. Plants need lots of nutrients for them to keep living and growing. This writing will explain the process of plants.

Transpiration

Firstly, Transpiration is the loss of water from a plant in the form of water vapour. Water is absorbed by roots from the soil and transported as a liquid to the leaves via xylem. After that, in the leaves, the small pores allow water to escape as a vapour. Transpiration is good for plants; it helps them to live and to get rid of water vapour, if the plant doesn’t get the water vapour out it could be likely to die. Therefore the process of transpiration provides the plant with evaporation cooling, nutrients, carbon dioxide entry and water to provide plant structure.

Osmosis

Secondly, Osmosis is movement of water in a living cell into a solution of higher concentration to where it has a low concentration. There are three types of Osmosis: hypertonic, isotonic and hypotonic. The process of Osmosis starts in the plants root hairs absorbing water (suctions up the water),then goes through the xylem vessels, and finally travels out the pores of the leaf. Eventually, the leaf will slowly die off. That is a mixture of Osmosis and Transpiration.

About Plants

Lastly, plants have to be planted in a moist environment, plants also need sunlight, water and air to survive throughout the wild. Plants are magnificent, they make us humans live, people can excrete too but we won’t die. Flowers need sunlight for them to grow. Also the bright colour on the leaves attracts bees and butterflies, the roots in the plants help the plant to not blow away or fall over. Most roots are brown but they're actually white the roots are just brown because they get planted in and all the dirt falls on them and makes them brown.

Conclusion

In summary, these are the main ideas about the life of plants. So a plant produces things for us like nectar and oxygen, what plants mainly need for survival is water and sunlight; the sunlight to help them grow and the water to help them survive. Osmosis and transpiration is good for plants too.

Finding the shaded area of a triangle

In class, we have been learning about finding the shaded area of a triangle. It was hard to do but today it we got more help on it and I started to understand. The success criteria is a three-step problem

Here are the success criteria on how to do it:

1. Find the area of the rectangle which it times the length by the height

2. Find the area of the triangle, half the base (the base can be anywhere) then times it by the height it has to be perpendicular to the base

3. Then subtract the 2 answers you have then you will have the answer done

Triangles

Term 2 in class prime 4b and prime 5b have been learning about the area of triangles. I thought it was gonna be real easy but when I did it, it was hard it was harder than all maths but then when my teacher was teaching got it I'm kind of good at it but kind of not.

Here's my math poster I did on triangles

Tukutuku panels

In class term 2 we made tukutuku panels to make them we used: a needle, wool (any colour) and a pin. If we wanted to make them then we had come up with a story. I hope you enjoy looking at mine.

Fair testing

Estuaries play an important role in a healthy environment. They are the connection between land and sea; they are teeming with life - the nursery of the sea. Rivers carry nutrients out to the estuaries and into the sea, but what happens if too many nutrients are getting into water systems and estuaries?  Our class is doing a science project to see if the effects of too much nutrients in our estuaries caused by a farm run-off.
